Small Crater Bowl, 1

$125.00

Small Crater Bowl, 1 continues my exploration of Iceland’s volcanic landscapes — places where heat, minerals, and time shape forms. The cracked, bark-like texture along the rim echoes the fractured surfaces found around geothermal craters. The smooth interior glaze evokes the depth and stillness of a crater lake.

This piece is hand-built from stoneware clay and finished with ceramic stains and glazes. The exterior’s textured surface reveals subtle shifts in color and pattern, moving from earthy browns to pale mineral whites. Inside, the glaze pools into deep greens and blues, creating a sense of looking down into water.

Multiple firings allow the surface to develop naturally, each stage adding depth and variation that can’t be entirely controlled — a collaboration with the kiln that mirrors the unpredictable forces of the landscape itself.

Like the land that inspired it, this piece balances ruggedness with quiet luminosity. It invites a moment of reflection, a sense of pausing at the edge of something both raw and serene.
