In the Bark Bowls series, I integrate the texture of tree bark onto the surface of the bowl. I'm interested in pushing the boundaries of what can be a bowl or vessel. The result is a functional sculpture. Each bowl is hand-formed using a slab building technique. I then begin the back-and-forth process of adding bark texture. Ceramic glazes and stains finish the surface.

There is some clay separation inside the bowl at the bottom. It isn't a flaw, but rather the result of the sculpting process. A layer of clear resin reinforces the bottom of the bowl to ensure it won't leak if used as a vase.
